Carl Diener
A Carl Diener Reward Fund has been established to help find Carl’s killer. A reward of $25,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for Carl’s death. Anyone with information should contact Arlington Police Detective Rosa Ortiz at (703) 228-7402, or by email to rortiz@arlingtonva.us.
Thanks go to the many generous friends of Carl who have helped make this reward fund possible. Gifts have been deposited to the TD Bank on Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, and financial oversight has been generously donated by Theresa Waddel, CPA.
Remembering Carl
Carl’s family would like to thank all the friends, family and Arlington neighbors who came out on Saturday, January 23rd, for a memorial party in Carl’s honor at the Lyon Village Community Center. More than 400 friends attended in a wonderful tribute to Carl and the impact he had on so many lives. It was especially heartening for Carl’s family to meet so many new friends and to have them share their many wonderful stories about Carl.
In response to a number of requests for appropriate ways to honor Carl’s memory, a scholarship fund has been established with the Arlington YMCA where Carl worked part-time and where he was able to indulge his passion for tennis. The Carl Diener Memorial Tennis Scholarship Fund will be used to help make possible tennis experiences for underprivileged children in Arlington. Tax-deductible donations to the Scholarship Fund can be made to the Arlington YMCA, 3400 N. 13th Street, Arlington, VA 22201.
Other suggestions for appropriate ways to remember Carl could be through donations to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, a charity that Carl supported, or to the Epilepsy Foundation to help combat that disease.
If you would like to leave a message for Carl’s family, you may do so through this site, or through an email to his sole survivor, his sister, Patti Diener Lough, at pdienerlough@gmail.com.

Dear Patti, I was so sad to learn of Carl’s untimely and cruel death. He was a great guy. Although we have not been in touch for years, I have many fond memories of growing up in Scranton with Carl…especially our summers at Oakmont. We all enjoyed watchign Carl play ping pong and just being the kind of person everyone wanted to be with. I hope you are ok. The good memories of Carl will live on as part of his wonderful legacy. Stay well, love, Ricky Goldstein

I’m in Scranton visiting my parents just read about Carl in The Sunday Times. I am very sad and sorry to hear about this tragedy. I spent many, many afternoons and evenings with Carl at the JCC and Daleville, just like Sylvan and so many others. I always enjoyed playing and kidding around with him. He was a great guy!
